Board Member and investor with talent and Strategy Expertise

Since I was little, I’ve preferred playing with robots instead of dolls and I’ve always been a joiner. These two things - my love for technology and people - have served me well in various aspects of my life and allowed me to contribute beyond my own capabilities.

As a young naive entrepreneur, I made a lot of silly mistakes and a few good moves. After two decades of operating as CEO in diverse sectors (technology, education, finance, and design) and being involved in over 30 boards and organizations, my life finally started making sense. The mistakes I made are the gems of cost-saving growth strategies I can share to support the forward-thinking CEOs and management teams by having the honor to serve on their boards. And my illustrious and kind friends are the access to connect the dots to get to the next point more efficiently and effectively and make the world a better place.

I studied computer science/mathematics during my undergrad, and talent management in my grad school programs. Then, I became a serial entrepreneur, lucky enough to start and successfully exit five companies, by connecting human capital management with digital transformation and automation for their rapid growth.

In the second chapter of my career, I truly enjoy being an investor and board member. I joined VSS Capital as Strategic Partner to invest our growth capital in sectors I am familiar with (Edtech, Fintech, Biotech, and other technology-enabled businesses) as well as sectors I am passionate about (Health and Wellness).

I also have the privilege and absolute pleasure of serving as a board member of extraordinary companies to support inspiring and brilliant CEOs and their management teams to succeed by sharing many mistakes and a few successes I’ve made. I also enjoy sharing the friends, colleagues, and relationships I’ve developed for many decades. By being able to connect good people together, I get to help and watch brilliant people accomplish extraordinary things.

I love the national ethos of America (freedom, innovation, creativity, peace, equality, and opportunity) as a world ambassador and have committed to giving back to the country that provided so many opportunities for my family and me. Having moved to the United States as a college student, my global perspective and networks across South Korea, China, and Europe are engraved in my DNA.

Machine Learning (Narrow AI, Personalized Automation). Blockchain Technology (from Currency to Commerce). Space (AR/VR/MR, Meta, Mars) ► These are my three major focuses. I believe they are, along with our human consciousness, changing the trajectory of the way we think, live, and interact with one another.

I've enjoyed sharing these stories as a keynote speaker at many technology, digital, and education conferences for the last two decades and look forward to continuing these conversations.

Involvements

Sabrina is…

Frank Baxter
Former US Ambassador to Uruguay
Chairman Emeritus, Jeffries

  • “Sabrina is simply a force of nature. We have known each other for over twenty years. I have worked closely with her on many projects and causes, specifically when she replaced me as Chairperson of After-School All-Stars and while serving on the Board of Fremont University. She is up to any challenge. She is one of the hardest workers I know. She is always the most prepared person in a meeting with visionary solutions. Her imagination is fertile and productive and she is impeccably honest. Her Rolodex is massive. Everyone who meets her, likes her. With all of her accomplishments she manages to be kind of all and is constantly helping others.”

Kathryn Schloessman
President & CEO,
Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission

  • “She is a tremendous asset to any organization she chooses to support - a chameleon entrepreneur. I met her a t major fashion show she was hosting, while she was running a fashion college that she started, built and then sold. She is incredibly smart and went on to start a bank, a private college and then became interested and active in the tech community. In addition to her private success, her civic involvement has been tremendous: she went from building a homeless center, to being on the city planning commission, to inner-city education, to serving on the board of The American Friends of the Louvre and Petersen Automotive Museum. Sabrina is successful in every environment she enters and brings value to every organization she touches.”

Andrew Cherng
Founder & Chairman,
Panda Restaurant Group

  • “I can always count on Sabrina as a friend and colleague. I served on the board of Fremont University as an investor and watched how hard she works. She also helped me on the University of Panda online program. I deeply respect her advice, but most of all I respect the way she upholds integrity and always does the right thing.”

Andrew Barth
Former Chairman, Capital Guardian Trust Company

  • “If you want something done right, ask Sabrina to do it. She is a hard worker and doer. Her drive and work ethic will continue and I cannot imagine her slowing down.

Toni Ko
CEO, Bespoke Beauty Brands
Founder, NYX Professional Makeup

  • “We’ve had many parallels in life and career, and I rely on her intellect as a financial wiz. During the sale of my first company, Sabrina gave me advice from her own experiences that helped drive the sale home. While others get together for shopping or golf, we get together to talk finance and investments.”

Elan Lee
Game Designer & Founder/CEO, Exploding Kittens

  • “Sabrina is one of the best people I know. A true strategic thinker, she’s smarter than most but, with her humility, makes you earn that realization. I seek her guidance on everything from employee and investor strategy to brainstorming ideas for my next game.”

Ryan Craig
Co-Founder & Managing Director, University Ventures

  • “Sabrina is one of the most creative and energetic leaders working to close America’s skills gap at the intersection of education and employment. She has pioneered important new pathways that solve major problems and is always on the lookout for ways to reduce frictions for both individuals and employers. I’m awed by Sabrina’s accomplishments.

Mimi Song
CEO & Chairwoman,
Superior Grocers

  • “Sabrina’s various professional experiences combined with her exceptional judgement, perfect timing and tact make her an incredibly wise businesswoman and friend.”

Rob Kingyens
Founder & CEO,
Yellowbrik.co

  • “I am grateful to Sabrina for the connections she has brought me into as my board member. She always seems to know the perfect person to help with whatever project I discuss with her and makes the introduction feel natural. I sometimes wonder how big her contact list is and how she knows everyone so well personally.”

Nanxi Liu
CEO & Co-Founder,
Enplug, Inc.

  • “I am so lucky to have Sabrina’s big heart and sound advice in my life as an investor, mentor, and friend. Her feedback has been an important part of my career growth. Sabrina helped me navigate our tech company from startup mode to global expansion. Thoughtful and innovative, Sabrina expertly brings her extensive experience across multiple industries to positively impact organizations she’s involved with.”
